What is a
Sugar Scrub?
A sugar scrub is a skincare product or treatment used to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. It is typically formulated by combining granulated sugar with various oils and sometimes additional ingredients like essential oils, fragrances, or natural exfoliants. Because of their versatility and various skin benefits, sugar scrubs have become popular in the skincare industry, offering a delightful way to pamper the skin and achieve a more radiant appearance.
a few Benefits
of Using a
Sugar Scrub
Your Skin Will Love It
-
Exfoliation - The primary benefit of using a sugar scrub is to exfoliate the skin. The granules of sugar help to physically remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This promotes cell turnover, revealing fresher, brighter skin underneath.
-
Smooth Skin - Regular exfoliation with a sugar scrub can help smooth out rough and uneven skin texture. This is particularly beneficial for areas that tend to be dry, such as elbows, knees, and heels.
-
Clearer Pores - By removing dead skin cells and debris, sugar scrubs can help unclog pores. This can reduce the chances of developing acne and blackheads and promote clearer skin.
-
Brighten Skin - Regular use of sugar scrubs can help lighten dark spots and hyper-pigmentation over time, leading to a more even skin tone.
-
Hydrated and nourished skin - The added oils in the sugar scrub provide moisture, leaving your skin hydrated and nourished after exfoliation.
How to use a
sugar scrub properly
Using a sugar scrub is a simple process that involves a few steps to ensure you get the best results without causing any harm to your skin. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use a sugar scrub effectively:

-
Cleanse Skin - Start by cleansing your skin with a gentle cleanser to remove any makeup, dirt, or impurities. This ensures that the sugar scrub can work directly on clean skin.
-
Wet Your Skin - Before applying the sugar scrub, make sure your skin is damp. You can either use the scrub in the shower or wet your skin with lukewarm water.
-
Take a Small Amount: Scoop a small amount of the sugar scrub using clean, dry fingers or a spatula. A little goes a long way, so you don't need to use a large amount.
-
Apply Gently: Begin applying the sugar scrub to your skin using gentle, circular motions. Start with a small area to ensure you're comfortable with the level of exfoliation. You can use your hands or a gentle cloth to apply the scrub.
-
Focus on Problem Areas: Concentrate on areas that are rough, dry, or prone to dead skin buildup. These could include elbows, knees, heels, and any other areas with rough skin texture. You can certainly use on legs and arms as well.
-
Avoid Delicate Skin Areas: Be cautious around sensitive skin areas like the face, neck, and any areas with cuts or irritations. Be sure to avoid these areas altogether.
-
Massage Gently: While applying the scrub, gently massage your skin using circular motions. This helps the sugar granules exfoliate the dead skin cells while the oils moisturize and nourish the skin.
-
Rinse Thoroughly: After you've massaged the scrub onto your skin for a few minutes, rinse it off thoroughly with lukewarm water. Make sure all the sugar granules and residue are completely washed away.
-
Pat Skin Dry: Gently pat your skin dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing, as freshly exfoliated skin can be more sensitive.
-
Apply the Earth & Ash Hydrating Body Cream - After using the sugar scrub and drying your skin, apply the Earth & Ash Hydrating Body Cream to lock in hydration and maintain the skin's protective barrier.
precautions when
using a scrub
Always perform a patch test when using a new product to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Please see our Patch Test information.
When using a scrub, it's important to start with once a week and work up to twice a week. A sugar scrub should not be used more than 2-3 times a week, depending on your skin's sensitivity. Over-exfoliating can lead to irritation and microtears in the skin.
